died and won't start

I have a 93 F150 4x4 with a 302. Friday after an afternoon of playin' in the mud, i drive almost twenty miles over some rough logging roads just to have the truck stall in traffic,in town a mile from home. It would crank and almost catch but ended up having it towed home. Full tanks, both fuel pumps working, plugs and wires, rotor and dist cap less than 2000 km old. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Frank

Does it sound like a flooded carburetor? Take the red vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel comes out while cranking. If so, the regulator is blown and needs replacing. Try holding the gas pedal down to the floor while trying to start. It could be flooding out. Check for spark from the plug wires, too.

actually....aetcmh....it seems like my truck does not have that particular sensor or at least I can't find it. and the whole area around the crank pulley is clear ....bout the only spot that wasn't packed with mud! anyway did find one broken plug and one dangling plug wire so put in new plugs then tested for spark....got lots of spark. so am thinkin' maybe it's time to test the computer.

check for fuel pressure at the fuel injectors, there is a schrader valve on the fuel rails and they should have something like 40psi on them. You can at least push down on the valve a little bit and see if the gas trys to spray out (a rag would be handy to cover) or if it dribbles out. My dad's 00 f150 would all of a sudden not have fuel pressure and it was some oddball sensor.

My friends and i have a boat with a mustang engine in it. It is pretty old and has lots of engine problems. Lots of times we will be out on a lake running great and it will just turn off. We try to turn it back on and the engine turns over but it doesnt start. Usually its our fuelpump not working. One of us sucks some gas up to get it pumping and it usually starts up. We are working on getting a new fuelpump.
