Every third oil change I clean my TB and change my fuel filter. You should do the same; it helps!
I'm glad you have your old/new truck back!

Question

Going to tackled this job myself on my 55K mi. 4.6 before I bolt up an ATI Procharger. What gaskets do I need? Just spray everything out and knock-out the carbon in the two EGR ports? Thanks!!!

This thread helped my confidence. I will be undergoing the TB cleaning & IAC changeout/cleaning procedure this weekend for the first time. I've never done any engine work on my 4.6 V8 before, so wish me luck.

BTW....know of any place where i can buy the gaskets instead of the Ford dealership?

The gaskets are Ford dealer parts only.

Good Thread

I only use gaskets on the IAC though and re-use the EGR metal gasket.

That's just personal preference, I use Black HH RTV to seal.

make sure to get the gasket that goes b/t the EGR and the throttle body.

A tool you might also use is a retractable magnet (looks like a car antenna with a magnet on the end) In case you drop a screw down in the intake runners, this comes in handy. I use it just before I remove a bolt/nut to ensure I dont drop it.

I can't get the damn Throttle Body off. Those damn tubes leading into the TB (I guess those are the EGR ports) are damn snug on there and there is no way in hell I can pull those off without hurting myself, or ripping them off. Plus the hose in the very back would be freaking impossible to get off much less put back on. Some of the 10 mm bolts on there are too damn tight. I did change out my IAC (over $100, thanks Nappy Head Auto Parts), and the truck starts up fine with a good powerful idle at around 1000. I did notice that when I pulled off my old IAC, there was an extreme amount of gunk inside the port from the TB. In any case, I fixed what was wrong and I'm kinda happy. Maybe tomorrow I'll give it more hell.

It's the '98 with the V-8 4.6L.

The pictures on this thread helped out a lot at the beginning. But damn, it's not easy $h!t for the first time. I'll give it another whack another time. I mean...hey...I ordered & bought a new gasket for the TB, might as well use it.

use a screwdriver to help pry those hoses off. Work them back and fourth, they'll eventually come but if it's the first time, they will be really hard to get off

Great information

My 02 supercrew with the 4.6 has been sluggish lately, and I've noticed some pinging under light load the last few months. I've got 88,000 miles, and haven't had to work on it yet, but the IAC and throttle body will be getting cleaned in the next month. Great post guys, lots of good info here!
