Looking at purchasing 2003 XLT

I am looking at purchasing a 2003 F150, 4x2, Super Cab, 4.6L auto.

It is a really nice clean truck, and I am test driving it over the weekend. It has 38000 on it, and looks like it could have rolled off of the showroom floor yesterday.

If there is anyone out there that has a carfax account, or access to Ford's Vincent system, would you be so kind as to run the VIN for me?

I think it was a northern truck, I found a sticker stuck in the door jamb that said "Pat Milliken Ford", and from what I can see on the web that dealership is located in Redford MI (I guess it is near Detroit).

The undercarriage looks like it was a northern truck as well (quite a bit of surface rust).

It is possible that someone on here owned it as well, if there was anyone who traded off a Black 03 extended cab in the Detroit area, I may be looking at your truck.

The only concern I had with the truck was there was a large amount of white sludge under the oil filler cap and in the filler tube. From what I can tell, this is "normal" for a 4.6L that hasn't been driven much. The sludge is pure white (snow white) and doesn't appear to have any anti-freeze smell, and the oil isn't milky, so I would guess the head gaskets are good. I guess it could be the PCV valve, but those things are cheap.

If anyone could give me a hand I would appreciate it. I would like to have some ammunition/reassurance when I go back to the dealer on monday morning.

Thanks again!

well i ran an oasis on it. doesnt show any warranty work done on it ever. it has no open recalls. the milky sludge is prolly just condensation from starting and stopping from when they move it around the lot and then letting it sit for some time. hope this helps alittle.

Thanks for that info. I am glad to see it hasn't had any work done, maybe that means that it has had no problems.

Since it came from auction, it is next to impossible to talk to the original owner, so all I have to go on is the word of the selling dealer (who of course has a vested interest in selling me the vehicle), and what I can find on CarFax and the other good people here at F150online.

Thanks again.

no repair history on yours either. says you should get the 04L19 tie rod maintanance reminder. the letter just shoes the propper way to check the tie-rod ends. it is not a recall or extended warranty. and it say someone has an extracare with roadside assistance contrac

i hope i didnt open a can of worms by replying to this thread.

just so others know oaisis doesnt ussually show any info on accidents. it only shows the service history for 180 days prior to the request and any open recalls assosiated with the vehicle.

Good luck with your truck purchase. I bought my truck exactly the same way. It was traded in at 37K miles, just when the warranty was up. Some people can afford to drive a new truck every 2-3 years and I'm real happy to buy one that has already taken the $8K-$15K depreciation hit.

You shouldn't have, because there are alot of cheap people like me that don't want to pay $25 for a Carfax report. Thanks, bro.

Side note:
Man, this seems like a really good deal. It's a '99 F150 XLT, super cab, 5.4L v8, 4x4 w/ off-road package, 80K, immaculate interior/exterior, $8000. This is at a big Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealer that has a good dozen or so preowned f150s, all priced 2-5K under value.

thats alot of truck for $8000. but anytime you buy a used one you take a chance. most f-150s in the 97 to 03 model years seem reliable. they do have their know problems just like any other vehicle you could buy used. best thing to do is get someone you trust to do a full inspection on it.
