Fuel filter adapter question

I'm desperate and need some help here. Here's the story -

I broke the metal adapter inside my fuel line that connects to the 'in' side of the fuel filter. It's a small, ten-cent piece inside the fuel line that adapts the line to the chamfered end of the fuel filter. The best way to describe the damn thins is that it holds onto the filter like chinese handcuffs. Bottom line - I broke it, so I put the fuel line back on (with the external safety clip), drove it to Ford, and asked them to replace it.

Go figue - that clip is only available through buying the entire fuel line, and guess what? Ford has since changed that fuel line, they no longer have the part, and want $464 to drop the tank and replace the line. So I told them where they could shove the line, and now I have my truck back ($41 later) w/o that stupid adapter.

Anyone else have this problem? And where can I find an online auto dismantler to buy that part from?

Thanks all!
