94 F150 351 Oilpan

Hey Guys...Got another one here for ya's...Oilpan on my truck is rotten as most of them are, So I decided to replace it. I've seen them done at the shop, But never did One myself. Now What is the best way to go about doing this? The pan bolts are out, and it's Ready to come down, But i've got a freaking Y pipe in the way! The tranny is already out (for other reasons) So i was told to do it now, because it's easier! What if i pulled the flywheel Off and just slid the pan forwards? I've tried pulling the Y pipe down but My compressor broke today, and them things are rock solid...Not even a cheater bar could help me there. So now what? What other ways are there to get that pan out? Thanks guys....

Jim

I had an 86 full-size Bronco with a 351 and had to do the crank bearings. The only way is to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor as much as you need. And it only had one oil pump.

UN BOLT OIL PUMP AND PICKUP
LET THEM fall into pan
should give enough room
not to bad too put them back when pan and every thing in cleaned up
get the pan gasket from jobber
should be a formed silicone job
usually come with little plastic clips
to hold it in place til you get bolts in

Put new gaskets on everything. You don't want to pull that pan again because of an "OLD" faulty gasket, do you??

Are there gaskets between the oil pump and the pickup tube? If so, they'd probably be paper thin, so I'd replace them anyways. I just want to know if there is, so i can get what I need tonight and be ready for tomorrow. Thanks again guys

The best I can tell you is that the only way I have seen this done is to unbolt the motor mounts and lift up on the engine. This will tip it to give some more room. That was however with the tranny attatched. I'm sorry but that may be all you can do.

Hope that helps

Mike

AAAHHGHH!HH!

I'm really REALLY not in a good mood...Spent three hours on the truck today, And CANNOT get that pan out...I did find another bolt holding the oil pump in, though...ANYWAYS, the Motor was jacked up all the way, btu I Couldnt get to that last bolt on the back of the pump! So i figured I'll take off the oil filter...WELL i've got a factory oil cooler on it, So that when It was jacked up, I couldnt get the filter off! Awesome, eh...SO i proceed to lower the motor and take off the filter...ONLY THE MOTOR MOUNTS WONT LINE UP WITH THE DAMN SUBFRAME HOLES....AAAAAAAAAAAA! I'm getting REALLY fed up with this Damn truck, If it's not one thing it's the other! WHAT Is going on NOW!!!! WHY won't the mounts line up?

Thanks for dealing with me guys...Jim

HI!... If you can't get the oil pump off due to the pump shaft is still in, you will have to remove your distributor and pull the oil pump shaft out. I've changed many of these oil pans and have never had to remove the oil pump. I usually jack the engine up and remove the old gasket and fish the new gasket around the pick-up and the pump. It's not that hard.

Hmmm...See the thing is, I've got a weird setup...It's got a double sump pan on it, and A weird subframe right under that...There's a hole in the subframe for the oilfilter, which is in a weird spot also...I dunno, I'm really not happy with the whole situation/ I have the tranny out already, So i figured i'd just drop the flywheel off, and Then try and slide the pan straight out. Well that pump and that pickup tube prevented that from happeneing...And the motor wouldn't jack up high enough to get the motor out! It's a 351, And i'm told it's harder then the 302 To do...I dunno...Why don't you come over and take a look, Neil?

Cool

Well, when they did that on my motor they took the upper intake off and lifted the motor from there. They had tons of room under the motor.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'

Alright, now i'm furious. The motor is lifted, As high as it will go. I went to let it down, to get the oilfiter off, to get to the oil PUMP...AND THE MOTOR MOUNTS WILL NOT SIT PROPERLY...I am absoloutely disgusted with Ford's design on this one. I need some serious help here, guys...Maybe Neal, JMC or even Izzyeddy could come by and Figure out what the Heck I did???
