How far on Synthetic Oil?

Treated my '99 F150 5.4L to 6 qts of Pennzouil Synthetic about 4k miles ago. Just wondering how far any of you have gone on one oil change of synthetic. I've had some tell me 5k, others as much as 10k.

Any thoughts?

easily 5M miles. i think 10M is OK unless you do a lot of short tripping or live in an extremely cold climate.

If your going to spend the $$ on synthetic oil, id do what just about everyone does, and buy Mobil 1. Pennzoil has a bad rep. for gunking up an engine. I change my Mobil 1 5W-30 full synth. and motorcraft filter around 6,000 miles.

brown0617,
Switch to Mobil one as advised by brahmus and change every 5000 miles.
I have 171,000+ miles on my truck and just recently put a blower on, thats how confident I am in the condition of this engine with Mobil One.

To answer the question, Penz synthetic is group III based Oil. I haven't seen many analysis of this oil, but I would imagine that 7500 or 6 months wouldln't cause any harm.

Folks you gotta remember the book states 5,000 on dino 5w20.

If you are interested in extended drains, there are oil's out there that are specifically designed for this. Those oils will have better base stocks, better additives and will cost more up front. The other side of the coin is you can extended your drain interval 3-5 times what the book recommends.

If you are absolutely interested in maximizing drain intervals. I would recommend you look at by-pass filtration and oil analysis programs.

I didn't change oil on my truck for 3 years.

I dont mean to bash, but Amsoil is far superior in all viscosity testing. Amsoil helps protect against wear much better than any other. Mobil1 is good, but it is actually at the lower end of synthetics. How do I know this? Read any test done on synthetics that test the viscosity. This will tell you how much protection you are actually getting. Amsoil provides the most protection against wear. Mobil is good and protects, but why settle for good when you can have the best?

I totally agree but it is harder for me to find amsoil around here while mobil 1 is readily available! I forget sometimes you'll have to forgive me

lol. Thats the only problem with Amsoil, its hard to find. That is why it is nice that my dad is a dealer. Funny thing is he only sales to us! lol. If you have ORW where you are, they sale it at damn good prices!

Same here. I changed out the Amsoil in the Bullitt every 1-1.5k miles. Some might say overkill, but it ran great!

I change my motorcraft filter at 5K and the royal purple 5w20 at 10K. No problems with this on my 02 when i traded it with 80K on it.

You can order Amsoil over the internet and have it shipped to your house. That's what I do . . . . .
