Starter question

If anyone has replaced their starter please tell me how many mounting bolts there are. I started to remove it tonight but it got too dark while attempting to remove the 2nd bolt. I have already removed the solenoid. The reason I am removing the starter is I've been having startup problems for several months now. At first my battery was draining and I thought I found the problem with my negative cable that had insulation cracked open at the starter. Now that I have removed the solenoid(truck will not start at all now) I found that the grommet wire is broken completely in half probably from corrosion. But I was curious to know how many mounting bolts to know how close I am.

You should have 3 bolts. The third one is on the top of the starter.

Thanks. Thats what I was afraid of. That top one looks like its going to be tough to get out. The middle one is hard enough.

On my '89,there was 2 bolted to the tranny, and one screw which held a small wire. When the last bolt comes off,be ready for it,and havea good grip on it,it will drop on you if not careful.

make your life a little easier. take out the inner fender well. takes 2 minutes but gives good access to the starter

And to the oxygen sensor! If you're in there might as well replace it.,,,,98
