Steering squeel noise.

I have this noise when I turn the wheel that makes the truck sound like an old clunker. If I turn the wheel past about 1.5 -2 turns then the noise stops. I've crawled under the truck trying to pin point the noise but I cant seem to put my finger on it. Anyone have any ideas? It's a 97 5.4L tow package with about 85000 miles. The fluid level is fine.

Try checking the pitman arm.

Just fixed my clunking...

My problem sounded a lot like yours. As a matter of fact, I failed my inspection because of it. I replaced my idler arm and no more problem.

$55 for the part and about 20 minutes under the truck. Dealer wanted $170. I just wanted to smack em'.

Just make sure you grease the arm a few times the first couple of thousand miles.
