Question undersize rear oil seal???

hey i was wondering if they make an undersize oil seal. we replaced one in a truck once, and it still leaked. i think it was because the orig. seal wore a ridge in the crankshaft, and it would leak no matter what. so i was wondering if undersize rear main oil seals are avilable

Thumbs up

I have had that happen before too, pretty annoying. I don't know anything about the seals, but I was halfway interested since my seals are leaking on my old Ramcharger. Looking forward to an answer also.,,,,98

If there is a groove worn in the crank in the front or rear seal area most major engine seal/gasket manufacturers make a repair sleeve. It is just a thin sheet metal sleeve that is driven over top of the worn area to give the seal a nice smooth surface to ride on. The brands I sell at the store I manage are Fel-Pro and National(Federal Mogul). But I think Victor and Chicago Rawhide also make them.
National has a size chart so that if you have an older application that the catalogs do not show a part # for, you can possibly find a sleeve by measuring (dial calipers, or micrometer, not yardstick ).

Sleeves are pretty common for the front but I haven't seen them used on the rear. Not sure how a sleeve would fit over the flywheel end of many cranks.
