98 4.6L radiator leak

My radiator has started leaking at the core solder joints. I would like to replace the unit with a quality radiator, but I am not convinced the OEM is the best. I have never had any sort of overheating problems with the truck and I guess 140K and 6 years is a good long life for a radiator. BTW, my truck is a southern edition with the towing package. The rad has 2 very large rows, the equiv of a 4 row conventional rad.

What do you guys think? Is there a discount source of quality radiators? Is the OEM one the best?

TIA!

Chris

I purchased the OEM ford unit and a new waterpump. $450 for the rad, pump and hoses, eeeek.

I am impressed with the assy quality of the truck. The job was very simple and only took a few hours. I expecially like the way the water pump installs, with a "O" ring instead of a gasket. Also the engine had no rust whatsoever inside. Looked perfect, amazing for 140K+ miles. Even those snap rad hose clamps are well designed, They lock in the open position and make re-assy very easy.

Do a search under my name and check out my post when I had to replace my rad in my ol' '97. It's an easy 1.5 hr job!

I purchased an aftermarket rad for $205 (new).
