Oil Change

Got a question about the oil change process. Right now I am running Amsoil 5W30 and a Motorcraft filter (Walmart). In another month or so I will be at about 3000 miles since putting Amsoil in. I know Amsoil is rated for at least 12000 miles but I know the filter won't make it that long. How do I get Amsoil to last that long if I have to change the filter every 3000 miles? I hate to run out all that oil every 3K because it is a little more expensive than other synthetics. Any suggestions?

Amsoil recommends changing just the oil filter every 5000 miles. Then topping off the oil after installing the new filter.

When changing your filter you will not "lose" that much oil. Maybe 1/2 quart or so.

I also recommend changing your filter every 5000 miles. It's easy to do, especially if you do it on a "cold" engine. It's not as messy that way.

Hope that helps.

You might also want to consider a "used oil analysis" to see how your oil is holding up. I'm running the same oil as you, with an amsoil sdf 15 filter.

I changed the filter in June (about the 6 mo. mark) as Amsoil reccomends and did the UOA. The results came back that the oil was fine. That was about 6k miles...

I'll change the oil and filter in December.

The cost depends on the level of analysis you want. I know of two labs, one being blackstone-labs.com

You can also order a kit from Amsoil's site . I did one and it was $20. Amsoil uses a company called Oil Analizers, Inc

I would also reccomend checking out http://bobistheoilguy.com and check out the forums. You will be surprised at what you learn.
