Poor acceleration up to 2500 rpm
I have a 2001 F150 SCab and recently I have been having some poor acceleration up to about 2500 rpm then it takes off like an airplane. I put a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in it and it seemed to work for about 100 miles or so then it went right back to normal. If I press slightly on the gas pedal it feels like it is missing almost like it is running out of gas. Do you think I need a new fuel filter at this point? Any ideas?

check engine light is not on? i would clean the maf sensor and do a tune up like the other guy said does it only do this under load or does it run funy just sitting there reving the engine?
Yeah there is no check engine light and it runs like a champ just sitting there and reving the engine, it only happens when it is in drive under a load. When I am driving along and it feels like it is running out of gas (even though the tank is full!!!) if I press down on the gas pedal and make it downshift or deliver a little more gas the "running out of gas" feeling goes away and if I let it get up to about 2500 rpm or more you can notice a huge difference in acceleration, it is almost like a turbo that just kicks in at 2500 rpm, but most F150's are not equiped with turbo's!!!!!
i would try the feul filter first if that dont work i would get a multimeter and check the throttle position sensor, this usauly sends a cel code tho so it probably not that but it is a good place to start, throtle body could be sticking to clean that up too, let me know how it goes
Okay so I changed the fuel filter and threw in some more fuel injection cleaner and it worked a little better (still not completly like it should) for a while but now it is back to the same thing. It only does this when you are cruising along and have the gas pedal slight pushed down, enough to keep the rpm's around the 1500 mark. I have 41,000 miles on the truck now, is the next best thing to try a full tune up?

i don't know much, but this sounds like an accumulation of carbon behind the butterfly of the throttle body restricting its movement. you might remove the air intake to gain access to the TB, hold the butterfly valve open and spray the inside of it with TB cleaner. use a clean rag to wipe back as far as you can reach as well as the edges and back of the butterfly. easy to try and it can't hurt. it will be a mess in there, guaranteed.
Check your (tps) throttle positioning sensor. Do a search for more detailed instructions and pictures, but here's brief explanision:
On the side of the throttle body there is a little 1 inch by 1 inch or so gadget with 3 wires coming out of it. Get a multimeter and put your "red" lead on the middle wire and "black" lead on the bottom wire. I used little safety pins to ***** them then hold leads to the safety pins. Turn ignition "on" but don't start it. Your voltage should be .99. If it's not, well, let me know.....

My 2000 f150 (4.6L) did this one day. It was a very humid, rainy day and I suspected that it was a COP problem. I decided to change the fuel filter and plugs, clean the EGR valve and passageway and clean the IAC and throttle body. These were due anyway as the truck has 83000 miles. The problem has not returned.
