Question 97 F150 engine swap

I have a 1997 F150 with a 4.2 v-6, just wondering can I put a
460 "Cobra Jet" Crate Engine into the truck. If so what other mods would be needed to accommodate this new engine?

Doubt that you will be able to get that combination past inspection.

Why not swap to a 5.4L?

Send me an e-mail, I have everything you will need.

Stock I would agree with you...but there are many easy/simple/cheap options for adding power to these engines. They respond pretty well to chips, and of course you can do the basic e-fans, intake, etc etc etc.

Ya but still slap on haeders, superchargers, exhaust on a ram and u still get more horepower than a f150. Plus it seems like too many ppl are having problems with the fords especially the new ones. so i just will buy a dodge.

All manufacturers have quality problems. If you wanna compare Ford vs. Dodge, Dodge has historically and still to the day more quality problems with its products. Daimler's quality reports went down after they aquired Chrysler. A 460 would fit, but you would have to do major modifications. If you want a fast truck buy a Lightning. Even the current lightning is quicker than the Ram SRT10 because of weight and traction problems with the Dodge.

Nah if i wanted a 500hp truck I would not get the srt-10. I would get a dodge ram 1500 with full-time 4x4 and supercharger it and add more modds. then i dont havta worry about tracion. My frnd has a ram with awd and he beat an ss (im not so proud about it cuz that thing is heavy and the motor on a ss needs to be waken up) almost beat a lightning but in the end didnt. lightning had modds and was pushing about 420 Hp dodge only had 360hp.

When did Dodge start making full time 4x4 trucks again? Dodge's website only lists a 2wd and 4x4 model. 4x4 trucks are heavy and slow. If you want something fast buy a Lightning, replace the factory supercharger with a Kenne Bell twin screw, get some 100 octange gas and you'll have 568 rwhp.

If you swap to a newer 5.4 with PI heads, they are rated at 260 flywheel hp. I swapped from a 98 4.6 to a 2001 5.4 and added a Superchip tuned by Mike Troyer with a Magnaflow cat back and K&N FIPK and I have plenty of power.

I pull a 6,000+ pound 5th wheel camper with ease.

I will be doing a dyno pull this fall and will post the results.
