High idle after port and polish?

this weekend i ported and polished my throttle body and elbow, put it all back together and it was idling like 500 RPM higher than normal, checked everything for vacum leaks and there was none, so i took everything apart and adjusted the buterfly so it would make a better seal, put it all back together and it was allittle better on start up it goes form 1500 then after about 15 seconds it goes down to 1000RPM at idle this is still like 200RPM higher than what it was, i think more air is getting past my butterfly and giving me this higher idle, what do you guys think? thanks in advance

It could possibly be your throttle position sensor. Did you remove it to do you P&P work?

HI!... Did you remove the TB butterfly when you port/polished your TB???? If you did the entire bore then I'm sorry to tell you, you now need a new TB. If you did the above then the bore of the TB is slightly larger than the butterfly and extra incoming air is sneaking by causing the high idle.

I just recently did mine and had to buy a new tps...it was my fault though. My idle was a little different after, but when I got it fixed finally it was back to normal...I just polished my elbow though.

good luck, hope you don't need a new tb like Neal said..

yes i did remove the butterfly and i did polish and sand the entire bore, i too think that more air is getting by the butterfly, i think that if i plug the hole on the butterfly that it may fix the problem, i will keep you posted

well bad news for me, i took the butterfly off and welded thesmall idle air hole that is on the butterfly with a oxy acetolen welder, well i geuse i heated it up to much i filled in the hole but when i went to put everything together i think that the heat changed the shape of the butterfly, so i got out my file and begane to try to corect it, well an hour latter i finaly got it all good put it together and i had to file it too much and i am back to axactly were i was before i broke out my welder, i just orderd a new bbk throttle body, let this be a warning to everyone to be very carefull when they attempt to port and polish the throttle body

I replaced the original throttle body with a MAC 75mm and had nothing but problems with vaccuum leaks. As it turns out, the leak was either side of the butterfly bearings - cheap, very cheap! I purchased the BBK 75mm from Mike Troyer - what a huge difference. It runs and idles 100 percent better. The BBK is a high quality product - good luck and tell us high you made out.

cool man, did you take any before and after pics...that's something that I wished Ida done. Don't forget to adjust or at least make sure you trottle positioning sensor is at .99 or .98....very important after messing with that tb.
