Fuel Filter Change

I have a 1999 F250 LD 5.4L with 80K miles had since new
I just purchased a new fuel filter for the first time with this truck
The box says to release the fuel system pressure before replacing filter.

My problem is I do not know how to do this. ANY HELP?

I also have a K&N Gen II, Flow Masters, Helix Spacer and Jet Chip

I am having power issues (like she is loosing her bounce in her old age) any ideas will help on this too.

Thank You,

Jsalty

If you let it sit over night there will be no pressure in the morrning and you will be good to go. (it doesn't take that long for it to release but that is what i do) Good luck

I just unscrewed the gas cap.

But to be certain you can press in the schraeder valve on the fuel line by the engine.

I never relieve the pressure; it takes too long, besides, you're going to get some gas from the filter anyway.Ive got the fuel filter change down to under 6 minutes.BTW,WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!

To relieve the fuel pressure, remove the electrical connection to the reset switch behind the passenger side kick panel. It is the one with the reset switch on the top. Get yourself a flashlight and take a look by pulling the kick panel back. The electrical wires are held in place with a grey clip. Open the clip slightly and it should drop right off.

Then start the truck and it will run for just a few seconds.

The fuel pressure is now relieved.

Did you pick up the fuel filter release tool?

Hi there......You could try cleaning the fuel injectors....have you changed plugs and wires on it yet? That made a huge difference on my truck. Also make sure you clean your K&n fairly regularly. Take care PHil.

With 80k miles I would look at changing the plugs. And,go back with Motorcraft! Also, clean your throttle body.Use only a TB cleaner, not a carb cleaner. You might want to clean the MAF sensor too.

Put in a bottle of Valvoline Complete Fuel System Treatment and then fill the tank about half full. This stuff works. It is recommended for use every 12k miles. It costs about $9/bottle at Autozone. I think you are wasting your money on the cheap fuel injector cleaners and I wouldn't put the Sea Foam stuff in my vehicle. I use the Valvoline about once a year in my F150 and my Mark VIII. I can feel the improvement in throttle response when I use it. It is supposed to clean the deposits on the back side of the valves as well as the fuel injectors.
My 2000 F150 5.4 has 85k on it and it runs like new with the original plugs wires, fuel filter, and everything. I have only changed the air filter every 30k and the oil every 5k with Mobil 1.

Easy Way to release fuel pressure:

Find the Fuel pump inertia breaker switch, on my truck, it is located top passenger Kick Panel, tap it with a "small blunt object of your choice" if you hit it hard enough, the little white switch on it will pop out. If you hit it too hard, I don't know what happens but don't call me

Then start the truck, and when it stops it will be out of gas pressure. takes very little time, and it saves from having a gas spill on the paved driveway or gas sqwirt in the eye.

When you want to pressurize again, reset the switch, turn key to "on" position, wait till pump stops. voilą

BTW this worked for all Fords that I'v had

96 Windstar, switch was in the jack compartment rear pasenger side

93 Tempo, in the trunk, Driver side behind carpenting above wheel.
