A pox on the Ford engineers!!
It is not as bad (although bad enough) as it is to change those on our 95 Plymouth Voyager with the 3.0L V6 which is now due for its third set at 120K. Three are in front with only about 2" clearance to the fan which is plastic with sharp corners to it (I swear they must have sharpened them intentionally). Then to get to the back three guess what, you have to jack it up, reach to your full arms length to reach them and if I recall the powere steering has a bracket across one that needs to be taken off to get to it.
Your right about them being platinum, the parts guy when I changed mine at 60K like the owners manual says he indicated, you do not relly need to change them until 100K.

This for those that need 2 different sockets.
Push the rubber out your plug socket cut it shorter so that it just grabs the plug. The socket is designed for various length plugs so the longer ones go deeper into the rubber holder and make it more difficult to release.

How? I just bought the extensions reccomended by the experts on this site.

IMPOSSIBLE. It took me 70 minutes just to do the passenger side. I unbolted the fuel rail, had to take off each coil pack, get the old plugs out, regap the new plugs, put a little antisieze on, etc
Definitely more than a 15 minute, let alone 30 minute job.
I've put plugs in my '97 5.4 in 15 minutes too...but then again, I had the engine out the truck, sooo...
If I'm on my game plan and everything goes as planned, I can do a set in about 30-40 minutes. The first set I ever done took me all of two hours though.
