engine removal

Do I need to pull the tranny on my 97 F150 before removing the motor? It's a 5.4L. First time doing this one, got a really clean 5.4 with 15K miles for 5 bills. Can't wait to get this thing going.
Thanks for the help...

I've been fairly intimate with my engine all day (replacing manifold gaskets on both sides and getting 4 broken studs out of the heads) and also doing front brakes, and just by looking at it, It appears it would be easiest to drop the engine cradle/engine and tranny together
