What engine mods can I make? '88 F150
New member here. I just purchased a used 1988 F-150. It's an XLT, 4 wheel drive. It has a 302 in it, fuel injected.
I'd like to know what type of engine performance modifications are available to me - with consideration given to the fact that my truck must pass DEQ (environmental quality) tests on a bi-yearly basis.
I'd love to be able to replace the cam, intake, etc.., but my guess is that I'll be screwed when it comes time to pass the smog test. Am I limited to a computer chip replacement, air filter enhancement, and exhaust improvement?
If you have any knowledge of this truck/engine, please share. Also, could you tell me what tranny this truck has? All I know is that it's an automatic. It feels like a 3spd. with overdrive, but it shifts rather undetectably, so I'm not sure. I'm not familiar with Ford trannys.
