Error Code Po401
Error Code Po401
Does anybody know what this code is? I went to Autozone and they did the error code and it came up with a EGR valve. I pulled it out and cleaned it.It wasn't to dirty at all or carboned up. Then I disconnected the battery cable to clear the code. This work for about 3 days then the code came back. Is there anything else to try or do I need to replace the egr valve?

DPFE is supposed to be on a recall...my bookkeeper had hers go bad on her Mustang and when I pull the code it said 401 so I sent her to the dealership and they replaced under warrenty...she had failed her State inspection because of the code showing and they were wanting 500 bucks to "get her back on the road"...she brought it to me instead and the world is right now.
called dealer
I called dealer and they said there was a recall on the Part if there is a actual problem with it. Otherwise they are going to charge me 136.90 for them to look at them truck if it turns out the egr valve is good. So I think I will try and clean it one more time and see if it keep coming back.

DPFE stands for Differential Pressure Feedback. The DPFE is used to determine the EGR flow rate.
Here is the DPFE sensor on my 1999 F150 5.4L engine. The 4.6L engine is different.

just save time and switch it out. prob. defective.
4.2 V6 here.
Had the P0401. By definition it's the EGR valve. Autozone could not supply the part. Had to get the part from FORD. In the 4.2 V6 its on the top of the engine near the front. It's easy to change out. Just let the engine cool down a bit first. I couldn't avoid touching the engine. Remember this valve deals with exhaust gases. My thinking was that since I had over 100,000 when the code first appeared I would just replace the EGR. It worked for me.

the old style dpfe is aluminun and the new is black plastic. they fail due to moisture getting inside. clean the egr and the 2 rubber hoses on the dpfe. clear the codes and drive around to see if the code comes back. if i does replace the dpfe. it only takes 2 mins to replace and would cost $75 at a dealer. this is a common problem

To temp1 that isn't the DPFE sensor, that is the EGR control solenoid. The DPFE sensor is connected to 2 hoses hooked to the egr tube coming off the left exhaust manifold.

Lets go for 20/20 vision.
Look again. Better like this?
Thanks for the correction.
