Overheating

I also posted this in the Supercrew forum, but got no replies, hopefully someone who can supply some info can see it here.

Hey everyone, New member here.

I am a proud owner of a 2001 Black Supercrew Lariat, but last weekend on a 2 hour drive, about 1hr 45 minutes into it, the main hose going into my radiator came off and blew all my water/coolant out. Luckily I made it to a Maverick close by and fixed the problem and refilled with 50/50 coolant.

But My question is, what temp is your temp-gauge running at? Mine now reads just above the temp symbol on my gauge, about half way. Is that normal?? I never noticed before, so thought I would check with some other F-150 owners.
Thanks,
Jared

Hello BravesAce,

Welcome, what you described is definitely not a common problem, sounds like the hose was not fastened securely to the radiator. The temp-gauge should be, as yours was, about in the middle. If your truck is a 2001, depending on the milage you might want to put on new upper and lower radiator hoses and a new thermostat. Generally 4 years or 60K miles is a good rule of thumb, hope that helps, good luck.

Thanks for the reply RKjerue

My '01 only has 33K miles on it, and the hose looks like it is in good shape, it just came unattached from the radiator, maybe a faulty tightening clip as you referred to. Thanks,
Jared

That doesn't sound common. The hose does use a tension clamp and not a worm clamp. The gauge does not give accurate readings. If you do a search you will find that the gauge is buffered and basically a glorified dummy light.
