The familiar 1997 4.2 leak
March 21 I discovered I had the leak. Ford Motors basically told me to fly a kite, so I visited my local "Blue Oval" dealership. The fixed the leak for $1151.00, but when I went to pick up my truck, the service adviser couldn't start it. So they give me a loaner. Next day they say, seems that you had a head gasket leak prior to coming in so we need more money. We feel really bad about your situation so we will knock of 10%, give us $970.00 more. OK fine, but are you going to ensure that your attempts to start the engine filled with coolant didn't create any new problems. Sure we will, don't worry about a thing. So I pay my bill, drive away for the evening. Next morning after getting to work, I have a bad feeling and try to restart the truck. DEAD! So I call the adviser. Oh yeah by the way your battery is dead, just get a jump. Jumped, but now with the hood up I notice a misfire at 1500 rpms. So I call the manager. Bring it in right away, don't worry about a thing. Few hours and 500 feet later, the truck dies at 30 mph. I try to pop the clutch, and was dragged all the way to a halt. Hmmmph! I crank it with the key, starts right away, no dead battery? But now I have no power, as if the mix isn't right, i.e., give it gas and the engine bogs. I also notice that at 2500 rpms and every shift the truck sounds like a diesel. Wierd. Manager says it is a lower end knock. Two weeks later, today, they want at least $800.00 to buy me 6 months, $1500.00 to make it right, or $3000.00 to drop a new engine. They induced these problems. Can anyone help me.
In reading some of the other posts, I feel it necessary to clarify one thing. I do not hate Fords. I hate the technician that performed the service on my Ford. I love my truck. It is the ONLY vehicle I have owned for more than 1 year. I'm 31 so you get the point.

I'd find a new dealer and maybe upgrade to a newer F-150.
you would have to talk to a lawyer to see if you have a case. but the dealer will most likely get a more expensive lawyer. if they were smart they would have warned you about the possable blown engine in the first place so you could have just used that money on a newer truck.
if you can prove somehow they caused the damage by say maybe they didnt change the oil before starting it and there was a ton of coolant mixed in. they should have changed the oil after replacing the intake gaskets and again after replacing the head gaskets. and i always run a quart through to see if any green comes out. if you fight it enough they will either go half or even replace the motor for free. its up to you how far you want to take it and how much headache you want to deal with.
