I would go with the 5.4. It doesn't rev as hard and may cost you less in fuel. The power difference is noticeable. If you go newer than that you can utilize the PI heads and broaden your options of aftermarket performance. The 97-98 4r70w trans has issues. Thats been the only problem I've ever had with this truck. Enjoy!
