Poor runninn Chev
Poor runninn Chev
I have a 95 Chevy Lumina car with 149,000 miles, it runs great most of the time but occasionaly, usually when warm after sitting for a half an hour when I start it it sputters bad almost stalling acting as if it's running out of gas. It usually lasts about 2 minutes before clearing up. Complete tune up 10,000 miles ago.
Anybody have any ideas what I should check? Should I change the fuel filter again? And does this mean maybe the fuel pump is going bad? I really don't want to get stranded with this car, I drive to Detroit and you know what that means. BANG BANG BANG RAT A TAT TAT BANG......
Please don't tell me to drive a Ford I have one of those too..
Any Ideas would be appreceiated.

dead battery / alternator fried. gauge wired burned out. my father's 91 GMC used to do that. when then engine is cold, it runs perfect, but after half an hour or so (more like 1 hour, he tends to slow time for some reason) it used to not startup unless u were persistant about it. they mechanic couldnt find anything wrong with the parts, however a wire or something was bad.. i forgot what it was, i'll get back to u as soon as i find out
Had a 91 Cavalier propbably with the same 3.1L motor. Went 2 years with that problem. The problem was the fuel pump, but I changed a lot of ther things before I decided to drop the tank. That was the second pump I put on that car between 70 and 120k miles of ownership. But first try the cheap and quick solutions of fuel filter and fuel injector cleaner.
Well APT being I already replaced almost everything else I was thinkinn maybe your onto something so I check the chiltons fuel pressue is supposed to be between 40 and 46 pounds. Check mine, 27 while it's running good. I did see a chevy truck running bad once and it was only 6 pounds under spec and a new fuel pump fixed it.
I guess I always think they are either good or they just quit...
So I am glad I took your advice I guess I'll try a fuel pump next weekend and see what happens. I hope this is it this car is in very good condition and should easily last 2 or 225 thousand.
Thanks
