plug thread depth

I just got a set of motorcraft copper plugs and noticed that the threads are half that of the plats. Should this be of any concern to me? I got a 97 f150 4.6.

I haven't heard of any issues with the 4.6 spitting plugs. Anyone else? I wouldn't think it would hurt, I went with Autolite Platinums, but I didn't pay any attention to the difference between them and the stockers.

When I changed mine, I was given Bosh and autolites. I compared the seats of the plug and the thread depth to to originals and didn't like what I saw.

I went and bought Motorcraft plats and installed them. IMO I would not mess with changing to a different plug, especally since these engines can launch one.

these are motorcraft plugs. I was talkin to a mustang guy on md.com and he said they are designed that way so that they can disipate heat more efficiently.

I'm not sure about the 4.6 but 2 different length plugs were used in the 4.2 v6. Perhaps the same happened with the 4.6.

Do you have a remanufactured motor?

My original motor used the 765 plug (short depth).

When I had the remanufactured motor installed it came with the 5144(long depth).

I believe the plug depth was originally short in the 97's For original 98's-2003 the longer depth was used.

When I installed the shorter plug in my remanufactured motor it ran fine at idle when cold. It had no power is soon as I hit the street and it sounded like a machine gun.
