Thank you to all the EGR geniuses!!
Thank you to all the EGR geniuses!!
Hi,
To everyone out there who has been replying to my posts on my EGR valve - you guys are the BEST!!! Thanks so much for all the advice.
I disassembled the throttle body and I found the EGR ports (2 of them - right?). I could not belive how clogged they were. There was a mound of carbon as big as dime on top of each. When I broke that off, I saw the openings, which I thought were pretty small. Then I got to cleaning - I can't believe how large they are cleaned as compared to clogged.
So, I think I got it all now. The ports are cleaned, the DPFE sensor is new. I blew through all the DPFE tubes to make sure they were clear. I just need to put everything back together, get my code cleared, and hope for the best!!
Thanks again - before this, I never even changed my own oil. This site is awesome!!

great job!!
clear the code your self. just disconnect the neg batt cable and then turn the headlights on. actually when you took all that stuff apart the first thing you were supposed to do is disconnect the battery!
let us know how she runs once it's all back together!!!

hcmq-- so the best way to clean the ports is to pull the throttle body and look on the bottom side of the throttle body? i've pulled egr, iac,etc for cleaning and truck runs great but now i am hearing some very very faint sounds of what might be a mild clatter developing when truck is under light load. No pinging at WOT. Would you pull the throttle body and go in from that direction for cleaning? thanks. truck has 163,000 miles and absolutely zero engine problems.
plug, thanks for the reply. from what you've told me what i referred to as the throttle body is actually the throttel body neck i.e. the four bolts hold the neck in place, and the accelerator cable also hooks onto the throttel body neck. I'll pull the neck this weekend and clean it. Is a new gasket normally needed? thanks again
I've cleaned (3) TB "necks" so far this year, and have not had to replace the gasket on any of them. All (3) were in like new condition, so I put them back on after I was done with the cleaning.
