Check engine light going on for a day then off

For about the past month, my check engine light would come on while driving, then go out after a day or two. Every time that I think about taking it to Autozone to have the codes checked, it goes out. Any ideas? The truck runs great. Plenty of power, good mileage (well, for an F150..) Could it be cheap gas or something?

It could be a number of things. Take her to Autozone anyway and see if it's stored in history.

He is in California. AutoZones can't do them there.

Need to have the codes read. There are hundreds of possible codes and guessing won't help any.

The computer stores history codes for either 40 or 80 drive cycles, depending on the firmware.

Try calling your local high school to check it out. I'm still in high school and also live in Cali and my check engine light just came on and I refuse to pay someone to tell me what is wrong with. I just asked the shop teacher and he said they'd read the codes. They'll probably also repair it if I supply the parts or pay them for parts cost. Just a thought, good luck!

Pretty good idea!

Gives the students real-world experience in diagnosing and repairing problems.
