Neither.

Click on SEARCH and enter "P0171 P0174" as your search terms and search only the Engines forum.

You will find many posts that deal with how to diagnose and fix this.

Ditto!!

It's a lean condition (more air than fuel in both banks). Either a vacuum leak or not enough fuel is the usual trigger for these codes. I've also seen cleaning the MAF wires in the past.

Check the PCV boot on the back of the engine. Follow the PCV hose all the back behind the manifold to find the boot.

The fuel filter may be clogged and or the fuel pump may not be functioning properly to supply enough fuel pressure, but start with the easy stuff first.

Throttle

my mechanical says I should get the injector clean.

I've been using additives in my gas tank since gas here in the DR's pretty bad; maybe I have a clugged gas filter as you say

Have your mechanic

1) Test for vacuum leaks and, if that does not fix it,
2) Clean the MAF.

In that order. No sense wasting money on an injector cleaning.

I assume you found no vacuum leaks then. Dirty injectors usually have a misfire code along with them so I would hesitate in saying that will resolve the issue, but it never hurts to keep them clean and varnish free. Is he going to perform a fuel pressure test after the filter? Swap the filter and let us know.

Bingo

I got my four sensors back:

changed gas filter which was clogged, check engine came back after resetting computer, then followed pcv hose to the boot and found a damaged elbow; put a new piece of hose till I get the pcv with hose. Now ckeck engine is gone!

Thanks!

Labor and filter: $35.00
