plug/wire question

im getting ready to change the plugs/wires on my 98 4.6. Im thinking that the stock brand of plugs and wires would be the best to go with. Those are Motorcraft brand right? If not, what is the reccomended brand to go with? Also, would i save money by going to autozone or another auto parts store instead of the dealer to get these parts? How much do they run?

Yes, the factory plugs/wires are Motorcraft. I have Autolite Platinum plugs in my truck, and they perform really well, but I can't recommend them over the Motorcraft plugs. You probably would save money by going to a parts store to get the plugs and wires instead of going back to the dealer. No idea on price, I can't seem to remember what the plugs or the wires cost me when I did my last change. Can't go wrong with Motorcraft!

well i just got back from autozone i bought ultraspark plug wires (54 dollars) and Motorcraft Platinum plugs (4.50 each) and some anti-sieze and a gapper. Bosch wires were 66 dollars so i figure i dont need them.
Isnt the plug gap for 4.6's .054?

as you install the new plugs, you might also want to smear a little dielectric grease on the plug tip. helps electrical conductivity and makes it easier if you should ever have to pull the plug wire. i believe the plugs are pregapped but .54 sounds correct.
