302 Trouble code
302 Trouble code
My 5.4L has been running rough lately. At one point the SES light came on. A few days later, it went out. And the truck starting running better.
I hooked up a code reader to it last night and got a 302 code. Why did it still keep a code, even though the light went out?
From a 302 (#2 misfire), is it reasonable to start w/ replacing the COP?

im not really sure but i think it will keep a record of the code until it is reset by a ford dealer or something like that.

The computer will maintain the stored code for either 40 or 80 drive cycles (depends on computer's firmware) before deleting it from memory. You can delete all stored codes with a scanner or you can completely clear the computer by removing all power from it for 15 minutes.
Instead of replacing the #2 coil, swap it with another easy-to-reach COP. Remove and inspect the #2 plug, also. Make sure it is not loose in the head. Once swapped, be on the lookout for another misfire-related code either on the #2 cylinder or on whatever cylinder you swapped the COP with.
