Lightbulb throttle body spacer

My buddy used to have the same model F-150 I have, 97 F-15- 4X4 supercab w/topper. We of course discussed the same problem with all F-150's, terrible gas mileage. He told me to put the throttle body spacer in, costs around $70 and he says it'll add another 60 miles/per gas tank. Anyone familiar with this and could second this notion? I also know of a place around here that sells and installs flowmasters for $300 total. Does this also increase gas mileage?

I have Flowmaster on my truck and I am still only getting 12 - 13 MPG, although it does sound a great deal better.

Great timming. When i just ordered some stuff i spoke with them about a spacer or something like that to add a bit of power and millage. They sell them but the gut i spoke who seemed to know the fords said that from the tests he had seen showed little improvment. These were the poweraid ones from 4wheelonline.com. I am thinking of getting one anyway it can't hurt right? .

The spacers work great, not a paper on my desk has moved since I started using it as a $70 paper weight.

Seriously, You probably won't see a benefit in the V8s. If you look at the design, it actually reduces the size of the TB opening.

Thumbs up

I have a spacer on my 5.4 along with K&N and magnaflows. No real gain in MPGs until I switched to all Purple Royal fliuds from the water pump to the rearend and everywhere in between. That and a bed cover and I average 17 to 18 mpg and have gottin as good as 19 mpg on 2 trips out west and that was at an average speed of like 80 mph. I tend not to drive less than that. The Purple Royal has given me the greatest mpg increase and has even dropped and smoothed out the idle rpms. Cost a little more, but worth it.

Do they have royal purple gas????. All the money you spent on RP you will never recover in gas savings.

Only cost about buck and a half for the trans and rear, do it myself. Oil cost $35 a pop every 5k. I do about 40 to 45k a year. I come close to gettin it back. The change from 16 to 17-18mpg saves bout $400 a year in gas..

No prob. Last few vehicles have all gone 200k so must help some. Wifes 97 exploder has 235k. Ranger I sold last year had 248k and my 86 F150 had 185k before I sold it. Funny thing is I have people waiting for me to sell my trucks at those miles because they know how well they are maintained. Hopen this truck goes 200k. Not sure though, am pretty hard on this one. Regularly tow 6500# trailer and load it to the stops a half a dozen times a year. Then there is that problem with my right foot. Need lighter shoes...
