I noticed a puddle of oil under my truck today. When I looked further, it seemed to be leaking from around the oil filter. I checked the oil and it was 1 quart low. When I got home, I took the (motorcraft) filter off and checked it out. Nothing seemed to be wrong with it. I replaced it anyway with a new Motorcraft filter, and the new one is leaking too. I could'nt see any cracks in the aluminum hosing where the filter screws into. Does anyone know what this could be? I dont know if I just have two bad filters or if maybe the housing that holds the filter is cracked and leaking. The truck only has 21000 miles on it. The oil was changed about 2000 miles ago.

Check to see if when it was changed last that the rubber gasket was not left on the vehicle. Having 2 gaskets there will cause it to leak.

 

I checked that, I took the filter off and checked the aluminum housing for cracks. I cleaned it off good with a rag and then installed a new filter. Its still leaks.

There is a TSB on this a crimped/creased seal under the oil filter housing resulting in leak.

 

There is a small allen headed plug on the side of the housing...make sure it not leaking from that
