Question skipping at low rpm's

kind of confused on this one. Im having what seems like a engine miss at low rpm's wich is more noticeable when going up hills. so far ive changed the plugs and wires, and also checked the clutch for slipping. the truck is a 97 with 4.2L 5 speed. It does this in every gear accept 1st and 3rd. I know there maybe several fixes with this one but don't know where to start. thanks

Is your check engine light coming on?

Take it to Autozone and see if they can pull some trouble codes. I hear they do it for free.

If it does it only in certain gears then it seems to be related to the transmission somehow. Other than that, Im clueless.

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission.
