I seem to recall a post on one of the Ford related boards about Ford supplying a 6 cyl diesel for the light weight Hummer that the military is look at.

I have had various diesel powered autos and trucks over the years. If the pricing were reasonable I would jump on a diesel F150.

I was stung by the 350 diesel in a 78 GMC - 5 engines while still in the 3/36 warranty, no lemon law...
85 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a diesel - over 150K @ 35mpg
85 Ford Tempo Diesel - over 250K @ 50+ mpg - don't know actual mileage as the odometer stopped after 6 years on 210K and I ran it for 4 more years.
86 F350 Diesel - good but it needed a turbo - a tree fell on it and I got a Dodge.
89 Dodge 1-ton w/cummins diesel - Great truck except the interior rotted away in 5 years.
Inherited a 84 Olds diesel with the 350 in it in 93 and it had 120k on it - ran it 2 years before the head cracked in city traffic. It died with 160K on it.
95 F250 Diesel - Great truck with great engine that lasted over 300K
My Brother-in-law put an Isuzu diesel in his 79 Bronco to replace a wore out 351 in the late 80's. He is driving it with almost 300K on the engine and 500K on the Bronco and he is getting good power @ 25+ MPG.
Except for my B-N-law's Bronco the rest were my family's daily driver or work vehicles on my farm. I am using 2 F150's on the farm now as they can do the job (they replaced the Dodge and F250) and didn't cost $35K each.

That's because I live in Atlanta and have a farm in south Georgia 270 miles away. Driving down every 5-10 days tends to push the milage up. It also doesn't help that I provide 2 trucks to my hired help on the farm.
