could anyone give me any good info on this motor? piston slap fixed,hp output. 4x4 . plesae respond my 98 4.6 4x4 was totalled and really need some info. thanks jer

 

Well for starters, the new 5.4 has a 3 valve setup which is or should be superior to the previous setup. I have an '01 5.4 2 valve version which has 260hp and 360tq/lbs. The new engine is advertised to have 300hp and 365tq/lbs. With all of that said, I think it would be wise to wait a couple of years to see if the motor is reliable. It's never a great idea to buy a brand new product like a car that's never been tested, but that's ultimatley your decision since you need a car like yesterday. My '01 5.4 has been great to date. It has a little over 60k miles on it and no problems(knock on wood). Regular oil changes with synthetic and maintenance work miracles!!! Good Luck and hope this helps. JR
