Problem with keyless entry....

I have a guy I work with saying that he changed the batteries in his remotes (95 Windstar)- because they only worked when he was inches from the truck. Now with fresh batteries- neither will work at all and I have no idea where to start to figure out why??

I may be in the wrong forum- but I dunno..just trying to do the guy a favor.

Anyone with any ideas PLEASE help!

Keep the forum strong

Reprogram the remotes. If that doesn't work there is an error in the control module for the anti-theft.

Not sure is it still the same 8 turns of the key to set the remote as it is the F150?

Checked the manual--states that it must be brought into the dealer to be reprogrammed. Does anyone know if there is a special sequence of events (or trick) that they do to reprogram them, that we could do...or do they use a plug in or tech???

Thanks for the replies so quick---thats what makes this forum a great tool!

The remotes should still be pogrammed into the system, unless he started a remote program procedure, and didn't include all of them.

Sily question, did he put in the correct battery, or put the battery in the correct direction in the remote ? A bettery swap in a programed remote, should not require a reprogram to put themback in ( they are already in the system ).

kidtriton ( jefflaws ) did a posting on adding remotes some time back, but this is for F-150s, don't know if it applies to his make or not.

Good luck.

My guess is the batteries are backwards or they are the incorrect batteries.
I swapped mine when they were pretty dead and no 're-programing' was required.

I have a 95 Windstar.

I had one remote (200 F-150) that would only work when it was a few feet away. This started about 8 months ago. I changed the batteries. Yes I put them in cirrectly. and even reprogrammed it. It still would only work a few feet away. I decided to take it apart and liik inside. I used contact cleaner on the buttons and pressed and released them a 10-20 times. It works now. Moisture/condensation had corroded the button switches.

Guess that would figure. Pocket lint, and the likes from having it in your pocket could do that. Make sense now that you bring it up.
