what should my rpms wbe when i start my truck? and its in park? and what should they be when im @ a stop sign? i knwo they allrange but whats abnormal? at first when i cleaned my egr valve i was like @ 1000 and @ stop signs like @ 600 or so. but now on start im @ like 800-900 is this to low? can u change it? whats the effects? im driving a 4.6 f150
It depends on the weather. On cold mornings, my RPM right after start (and until its warmed up) are a good bit higher (not sure of the numbers sorry).
When the engine warm, mine idles around 600 in drive, and about 700 in P or N.
On warm days I would say right after start it idles around 800-1000 RPM until I put it in drive, and after that it is pretty much like the numbers above.

My 2000 F150 (Manual) idles at around 850.... As for changing it, probaly not (depends on year and so on), that would be a shop manual/dealer question, but I can offer this advice, under the hood on the emission sticker it SHOULD say the idle RPM.... I know it does on my although that may be a function of being in Cali.

my 91' F150 5.0 302 idles at 650, when in park and N, and when in drive, it idles around 600 when warm. I have been told in my yrs that n e where from 600 to about 750 is best at idle. But it depends, if u find that when u kick the air cond. on that it idles below 650 or 600, then u should kick it up.
One way that u might try to idle up, im not sure that ford has this, but, where u throttle cable comes out to, on other makers there is a screw to pull the throttle out, and to loosen it. U can try and set the idle higher by pulling the accelerater out wth that screw, i had to do it to my 85' Buick Park Avenue when i had it.
I hope this helps in some way.
