More Power

I have a 93 F150 with a 302 and would like more power. The book says that I have 185HP now. Can I put is a roller motor and gain very much? Or put a turbo on the engine that I have? Any suggestions?

How much power do you want from your engine? Is it a daily driver and is idle quality important to you? What about fuel economy, and how much $$$ do you want to spend?

Yes it is a daily driver. My mileage isn't that good now, but would like to improve if possible. I don't have a figure in mind, just getting some ideas.

Fastest and easiest way to go would be the addition of a supercharger. The initial cost is a bit high, but you will maintain the drivability and fuel economy of you engine as long as you keep your foot out of it! With a small charger like a vortech a-trim you'll probably pick up around 50-70hp roughly and would not cause a whole lot of stress on your engine.

If your just looking for the occasional blast of acceleration nothing beats NOS, and it's reasonably cheap. you can also jet a NOS system for how much of a kick in the pants you want, anywhere from 50hp right up to 300+ hp!!! The 50hp kit would be safe to run easily, but you may only get one use out of the 300 kit.

Or just go for a basic rebuild and add a few goodies while it is in the shop (or do it yourself) like the addition of aluminum heads, swap out your cam, etc.
Hope this helps.

thanks for your input. The main reason for the extra HP is for pulling a trailer.

You truck is fuel injected and mass air right?

If you went with a basic head + intake combo you would probably be happy. The stock ford truck cams are great for low down grunt so I probably wouldnt change that. A nice pair of Trick Flow, Edelbrock, or AFR heads, and matching intake like a Edelbrock Street heat would do it for you fer sure.
This is what I use my extra power for https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=3326

A simple fix may be to have it de-carbonized and check to see if your using motorcraft plugs and have a good rotor and cap. That improved my HP and mileage. About 80 for the de-carbonizing of injectors and intake. Good luck.

does the dealer do the de-carbonizing? I have fuel injection ,but I don't think that I have a mass air. Something else I bought a ram air hood for it , but don't have it on yet. Thought that might help.
