Insufficient Torque

Unhappy Insufficient Torque

Help.

My 97 f-150 has been losing torque slowly but surely over the last few years. I have taken it to the shop and they tell me everything is okay and find some other things to fix and charge me for.

Lately, I'm having a hard time pulling out from stop signs and dread an uphil stop that I must make on the way to work. Pulling my 20 foot boat out of the water now requires a shift into low range to get adequate torque.

My truck is stock and the only modification is a KN air filter and upgraded 245x75x16 dunlop revo's.

I've already tried spraying the MAF sensor which helped a little, but I still don't have enough torque to back my boat up the slight incline to the garage without using low range.

What can I do?

97 F-150 SCab, 4x4 with 4.6 and 5 spd manual, 3.55 rear end.

If cleaning the MAF helped maybe you should look into replacing it.

HI!... Check your CATS. Last year my truck was slowly losing power until when floored it felt like a V-6!!!! I found that one of my CATS had fell apart internally and plugged up the secondary CAT almost completely. Check your CATS.

Neal made a good call. Sometimes they melt inside and plug up. really causes a power loss. Most muffler shops can test them to see if they are working

Hello all,

thanks for the feedback.

Last night, I read some old threads and made a late-night run to wal-mart to pick-up a standard fram paper filter and a can of brake cleaner.

I shot the MAF, changed the filter, disconnected the battery for 15 minutes, and then let everying idle for 10 minutes.

WOW what a difference. The power is back. I will also have my CATs checked to see if there is more power to be had.
