Question Oil Quanity for 5.4L

The search function is not working for me and I was wondering if anyone puts more than 6 qts in the 5.4L engine?

I am putting anywhere from 6.5 to 6.75 before it reads full on the stick.

I have the meshed area in the middle with a lower and upper hole punched in the stick on either side of the mesh. I filled to the upper punched hole...

Search function (once it's working for you) should give you lots of hits, as this has been discussed many times before. On my '02 5.4L, 6 qts. with filter gets it halfway up (maybe a tad more) the hashed markings, which is fine. Some folks like to get it to the the full hole in the dipstick, which seems to be fine also (but not required). Check your owner's manual for their opinion.

For these truck the recomended capacity is 6 qt but you can go up to 7qt. If you put 6 qt it will show about the middle of the two dots on the dipstick. This is plenty good.

I've put 6 quarts in mine since the it's first change and have had no problems. It puts the oil between the add and full marks.

Here is a TSB on oil levels. Do not add more than between the hash marks or damage can result! Go by what your owners manual says, 6 quarts. :
SERVICE INFORMATION

Ensure the vehicle is sitting on level ground. Set the park brake and ensure the transmission selector lever is in PARK position, or in FIRST gear on manuals. The engine must be OFF.

The best time for determining oil level is before the engine is started and the oil has had sufficient drainback time to the sump. If the engine has been running, allow it to sit for a few minutes turned off. An oil drainback period is required before taking an initial reading.

If the level falls below the lower hole, fill with one quart of oil. If one quart is insufficient to raise the level above the mark, add oil until it records within the crosshatch area. Use caution during this procedure as some time is needed for oil to drain down through the drainback passages in the cylinder head, to the oil pan. Adding oil a quart at a time repeatedly without sufficient drainback may overfill the sump.

If the oil level falls between the upper and lower hole do not add more oil. Adding an extra quart could cause overfilling and may result in aeration (foaming) causing eventual damage to vital bearing surfaces and moving parts inside. Overfilling will require some oil to be drained out until the indicator shows the level between the upper and lower holes of the blade. DO NOT expect the engine to 'consume" the extra oil back down to the upper oil till level hole, or consider it as extra lubrication protection for the engine.

overfilling will result in the counter wieghts on the crank to hit the top surface of the oil causing oil foaming and vibration down the crank

It should be considered safe up to the top mark I would think or Ford should move the top mark down. what ever amount hits that line should be usable without foaming.
