Chirping /Squealing

Just replaced the Serpentine belt on the 1997 Ford f-150 4x4 4.6 Litre.

Before It was done today, Since it's cold here in Canada, it was just chirping its @$$ off all the time, and different pitches and sounds of chirp.

After it was replaced with a gatorback belt the chirping/squealing sound has lessened but is still there. What else could this be ?

Thanks.

Could be the belt tensioner, powersteering pump,altenator....
try spraying a little wd inside the belt tensioner and see if it helps. maybe even a little belt dressing on the new belt may help. good luck...

Cool

I wouldn't spray WD-40 on anything that needs lubrication, except maybe a closet door hinge. It's lubricating properties are short-lived at best.

If you are going to spray something into the tensioner, try using something like Tri-Flow, etc.

Just my $.02...

Chirping would be in my opinion caused by a weak tensoner or something that is too tight and about to lock up. Usually would make sure to check the power steering pump.

was there any rubber residue on the pullies beofre you put o the new belt. Sometimes the old belt will leave a rubber film on the pullies and causes noise with a new belt. the other suggestions about the tensioner are also worth checking out.

Wow, that's the first truck I've heard of that wasn't helped by a Gatorback? Mine squealed off and on for two years and three belts(2 tensioners). It stopped cold the second the gator was on.,,,,98
