4.6L Problems
4.6L Problems
I have a 2000 F-150 4.6L V8 SOHC 4X4 5spd manual transmission 50100Kms 3.08 gear ratio. Recently I added an FIPK air filter and a gibson Swept side exhaust. I also added a Hypertech performance programmer into the scene. I programed the Hypertech into the vehicle and drove probably 15 miles and white smoke started pouring from the exhaust. Upon further investigation I had 2 pistons (1&2) full of fuel and probably 3 Litres of fuel in the oil. 2 fuel injectors seized open. If Anyone knows a more powerful engine that would sync up with the transmission let me know. I want more HP but no one seems to know an engine (other than the 5.4L) that will sync with the trany. I want to keep the 4X4. Thanks, Blaze

Welcome to the boards: well the 5 speed in question in not the best at handling towing and much HP. i to have the 4.6 5 speed with 3.08 gears and the best thing you could do to improve performance is to cahnge the gears to 3.73's. The 3.08's are for gas mileage and just general use not for speed. I use my truck to commute back and forth to work and it does this very well.
before checking your injectors, did your sparkplugs have spark?
and hows your compression?
As for more power a turbo , and some gears should pep
up your 4.6. for a thousand less than getting a new
engine.

The engine is completly shot the truck is a show truck and i want to get into the racing aspect a little more. i know the 4X4 will slow it down but it is all in the fun of having the fastest 4X4 and it is needed to complete the look for the shows. The gear ratio is defintly getting changed to a 3.73. Thanks
you have everything that i have on my 99 F-150 with one exception of me having Underdrive pullies.....i have no problem towing with my 4.6 with the 3.73 gear ratio.....the truck has towed a few boats, cars, trucks, and not to mention a 763 series bobcat a few times more than it really needed to.....i agree with your choice of the swap in gears.as they mentioned b-4 the 3.08 is for gas.....once the change happens you will notice a great seat of the pants reaction from your truck.......and also the turbo or even a supercharger will give you the speed your looking for.......also if you are wanting to swap engines.........i recommend either a nicely built 302 or even what i want to try later in my trucks life.....a 460...with the 302 the only problem is finding a tranny to fit in the factory shifter opening...try www.AdvanceAdapters.com they might have an answer.....just my .02
All the instructions said was "don't run any electronics (windows, radio etc....) while programming nothing about fuel pumps. It just said plug in....program......disconect......and go. Where can I get a good supercharge kit??? Thanks

Blaze1,
How much $$ do you have. If you keep the 5 speed be prepared to replace/rebuild it. If you want a bigger engine look at the 5.4. It has more power stock than all the power you got from your add ons. If that is not enough have a look at the 6.8 V10. If you want the fastest 4x4 you had better start with some thing better than the 4.6. Both engines will bolt up but it is going to cost you some bills to make it work.
