electric fans ... power/$$$
The learning curve is sometimes a straight line with me. I never knew that an alternator got harder to turn with an increase in load. mscott, JMC and Neal, thanks for the classroom.
I can't take credit for that writeup actually. It is taken from a post on my listserv from a guy who can actually explain it right.
I knew the theory behind it, but not enough to explain it properly.

I installed Troyer's dual 16 inchers last weekend and absolutely love the improvement in MPG. Bear in mind that the very, very best economy experienced so far was 18.1 MPG (before installing fans). At that time, my SCrew 5.4 had less than 6000 miles and I took a 380 mile trip.
The next best MPG I got (before fan install) was 17.7 with 27000 on the odometer.
I just checked my first tank after installing the fans and, running with the A/C off in 85 degree weather, got 20.14 MPG.
Soooo...a 2+ MPG gain (11-12%) is quite pleasing in addition to the improved acceleration from a stop, slightly cooler running temp, and the elimination of the annoying manual fan noise. I'm heading out to Nevada on vacation tomorrow, will be using A/C of course, and will report additional findings if you like.
As far as I'm concerned, changing out to electric fans should be the absolute first mod to perform on a stocker.
Regards...Kevin
