best oil?

I have been reading all of the post about what oil to use. I have always used castrol in everything. Great stuff so far. I just bought new screw with 5.4. Should I continue with Castrol or change to the Motorcraft? Castrol is making a 5w20 now.
thanks in advance.

Castrol is good quality oil so if that is what you like then sure use it. You will get a lot of responses as to what is the best. It is really to each their own. If it is a good quality oil and you change it as recommended (5,000 miles) or sooner it don’t really matter what type of oil you use. It can be synthetic, a blend or straight dino oil and they will ALL protect your motor just as good.

The Castrol product is just fine. If you are happy with it and its easily availible, then stick with it. The Motorcraft 5w-20 has shown itself to be a pretty good oil too. Wal mart carries it for about 1.80 a qt. Also a very good product.

Either one will work fine.

If you want more, go over to the board mentioned above. You'll learn more than you ever thought there was to know!

Not sure if you're using Castrol Synthetic or petroleum. Remember the commercials where Castrol Syntec showed several engines on stands and were running them I think without oil and the Castrol Syntec engine kept running while all the others seized. I remember reading several years ago where Castrol was sued over their claims and lost. Moral of the story: keep oil in the engine. All oils are absolutely not the same. But, if you don't mind changing it every 3,000-5,000 miles then run anything you want.

Well I haven't been in one of these Donnebrooks in awhile so here's my view. For the Triton engine, the best LOOKING oil on paper is the Chevron Supreme. It is on test in my 4.6 now. It will be about 5 weeks before I hit 5000 miles so I can't give you any real world numbers. Easier to find is Pennzoil. Now before everybody throws up, Pennzoil is now under the Shell umbrella. The additive package for the 5w-20 is almost identical to the Supreme. If the basestock is the same, and I believe it is, it will contain about 50 ppms of moly and about 125 ppms of boron- both good anti-wear agents, so this should also be a good oil. The only problem with the Castrol is the VI which is a hair low and while it has moly, it has no boron in our latest VOA. Mobil one has a lower HT/HS, actually, it is the lowest and still stay in grade, so that is a waste of $$$. But I think it important to say that any oil that meets Fords spec is darn well built and it exceeds SL, GF-3 standards and most likely will exceed the newer GF-4 standards, that is, if API ever decides what that is going to be.

I'll just save myself some typing and agree with everything labnerd typed.

I summary, if the Castrol meets Ford's specs for a 5w-20 then it is as good a choice as the Motorcraft. Castrol GTX seems to be one of the top 3 choices of those who do oil analysis.
