Motorcraft or Champion oil filter?

I've been using motorcraft FL820s oil filter in my 97 Expy but I am wondering if Champion PH820 will do the job? I'll be using 10W-30 this weekend when changing the oil

Stick with the motorcraft filter. The champion is not as good.

Don't even get started on the 10w-30 debate!!

You should be okay either way. Purolator makes the Motorcraft you buy at the stors but if I am not mistaken Champion makes most of the filters Fords leave the factory with. Cut the two open and I think you will see a difference. At least there was just a couple of years back.

Purolator is the best!!!! Yes, they do in fact make Motorcraft oil filters. The only real differance is the filtering media. Ford has a vender send what they want to Purolator for the motorcraft, its a longer lasting media . But not as good filtering as the media Purolator uses.

I agree...no 10W-30 debate. 10W-30 isn't worth all the tension that people feel when discussing it.

Actually, I recall the OP talking about his having to use 10W-30 oil because of his location. The proper oil is not available to him, at least not locally. I'm sure, shipping in the right oil would also be a very expensive proposition. So, no debate from me in his particular case.

As for the filter, you really can't go wrong with the Motorcraft filter, so you should stick with it. It's effective and cheap.

Great quality filter. Expensive, but great filter.
