Talking Dash removal?

I posted this in General Care and HVAC, but did not get any replies. Could you guys help out?

--------------------------

Hi all.

I am having the typical 'air only comes out of the defroster' issue. From looking around on the board I realize that it is most likely a vacuume line or valve gone bad. My problem is this: after searching the boards I cannot find out where these lines are located. I looked near the firewall in the engine compartment, I looked up under the dash, but I didn't see anything that looked like what I was looking for. To get to these does the dash have to come off? If so how easy is that?

Thanks for your help!

I haven't actually removed the climate control center, but I have removed the radio and I think you start the same way. Angle the two center dash vents towards each other (crossing air flow pattern) then grasp the entire assembly (trim that surrounds vents, radio, climat ctrl) and pull it off (straight out, takes about 12 to 15 lb force). Its held in place by clips. Once this is off I believe you'll see screws to remove the climate control panel.

Luck

Remove the trim ring around your radio and dash vents (it just pulls off). I can't remember if it's screws or a couple of small bolts that hold the temp/fan speed/blower selector, remove those and you wil see multiple colour vaccum lines going to the switch. Don't know if you leak is there but it's a start.

vent system

I am having the same problem, BTW, I posted on the interior site a few minutes ago, so maybe I will have some luck.

My truck is a 1978 model, so I'm sure the new systems are nothing like what is in my truck. Please, please email me if you get a good line on correcting this.

thanks
