Odometer working intermitantly

The electronic odometer on my 99 f150 4x4 5.4L 4r70w truck just turns off and on intermittantly. It usually will not come on when I start the truck. Then sometime from about 30 seconds to about 2 minutes it turns on. It doesn't loose its memory or anything, it just doesn't turn on.

Any suggestions?

i have the same exact problem . i am assuming its some sort of loose connection as hitting the dash with the palm of my hand has corrected it temporarily once or twice.

did that just to check (palm hit). dont want to bring it in for service just for this alone. it more of a pain at this point, since it does come on sometimes. i have no idea on how or what might be loose.

started happening to me around 6 months ago. now its a 50/50, on/off thing.

Well I am glad I am not the only one. It actually has been doing this off and on for almost two years but just as you said, it is becoming worse and worse. I have to get the truck inspected next week, it needs to at least come on for that.

I will let you know if I figure it out.

So far I went under the truck and cleaned up and tightened every ground that was moved when I did my body lift. It didn't help, but it was a good start. I don't have the factory manuals for this truck, so no electrical diagrams.

On a side note, has anyone bought the factory ford manuals? Do you feel that they were worth the money? How much did they run you?

Thanks,
kev

Lol, yeah I know what you mean

Actually I am already cheating the system because I have 35s and never recalled the computer. So 1 mile on my odometer is actually less than a mile on my truck

Mine is kind of the same, except I have the BFG's that came standard. I think the BFG's where swapped out when Firestone was having the problems. I love these 17" BFG'S anyway, going by the mile markers my truck is approx. 5% - 8% off in my favor as far as the miles recorded...
