I got rid of my K&N over 2 years ago, when I had the same problems with dust/dirt in the Intake.
Also my K&N didn't seem to fit in the housing as well as I thought it should.
This is exactly my experience with the drop in K&N filter. Since I removed my K&N, I have yet to find any dirt/dust in the intake tube.

I also read a recent report that K&N filters allow up to 2-4 times more silicate particles (fine sand/dirt) into an engine than a standard paper element. I don't know the validity of this report, and it obviously goes against K&N's own study, but it seems to match my experience with K&N.

I currently have a high performance intake system w/ a K&N element on my NSX. I may decide to remove that one as well.

i ran a stage 2 k and n for about 50,000 miles. it seemed to help acceleration and the sound at WOT was better but i took it off and went back to bone stock. Mainly concerned about dirt coming into the engine thru the F and N. No plans to ever buy another F and N (or similiar) product
