Unhappy Problems starting/Idling

My 2000 5.4 off road is having problems starting in the morning.

Here is what is happening, it will start then putter around 1000 - 1500 then die. The only way to keep it going to is to push the pedal and make it idle. You can smell some gas inside the truck.
Once you put it into gear and and go it's fine.... until you stop then it will die. It does this for about 15-20 minutes or until it gets a little warm and then it's fine the rest of the day. It just started doing this.

I realized it has been a while since i have changed the airfilter, so I am doing that today. I put fuel injector cleaner in yesterday. I had some advice to buy Fuel Injector Cleaner spray and clean the sensors because i can get dust in them that causes it to mess us the mixture and timing? Don't know if that is correct. I'm leaving for florida on Sunday and we were hoping to throw the motorcycle in the back and take it with us... please don't make me drive that honda accord!!!

I'm robbing a fix from another thread and saying a clogged fuel filter. Try replacing it. Its cheap and it just might do the trick.

Complete SWAG, but you say you smell alot of gas while it is idling rough ?

If you take off the IAC and celan it ( or replace it your choice ) that might be it. If the IAC is not opening all the way, the motor is trying to move the A/F around to keep it running, and without getting enough / constatnt air flow, it dies.

Just a guess here, the smell says it is getting gas, the other 2 parts air and spark are the questions I am guessing.

Take a look for a IAC if you don't have time to clean it. On my 5.4L it is right on the back of the T/B. Kind of a PITA, but a 5 min job to do.

JMC has cleaned his twice on his, no probelms yet.

post on cleaning the IAC if you want to go this route :
