P0153 Dtc

I recently got a P0153 code (slow O2 repond time bank 2 sensor 1) at startup. I have a small exhaust leak on the same side that I have not gotten around to correcting yet. Could this cause a P0153 code. I don't think the O2 sensor is bad.

Big Orange,

Yes the xhst leak can be the source of this, per the Ford Service Manual. While they are usually associated with P017* codes, you should still check the MAFS to see if it is dirty, and the hose connections to the intake and the elbow at the back of the T/B elbow to see if it is cracked. With you having a xhst leak, that seems to be the place to start.. ??
Might want to get that fixed and reset the PCM to see if you got it.

If you search on P015* there are 8 other posts on the topic, and they mostly seem to be replaced O2 sensor(s) and problems were solved, but they made no mention of a xhst leak in combination, just rough idle and poor mpg.

The section from the manual just so you have the full text :

DTC
P0153 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Slow Response (HO2S-21)

Description
See DTC P0133

DTC
P0133 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Slow Response (HO2S-11)

Description
The HEGO Monitor checks the HO2S Sensor frequency and amplitude. If during testing the frequency and amplitude were to fall below a calibrated limit, the test will fail.

Possible Causes
Contaminated HO2S sensor.
Exhaust leaks.
Shorted /open wiring
Improper fueling.
MAF sensor.
Deteriorating HO2S sensor.
Inlet air leaks.

Diagnostic Aides
Access HO2S test results from the Generic OBD-II menu to verify DTC.

Good luck with the xhst leak repair, and post back what fixes it for the next member to see.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like you saved me a O2 sensor purchase. I will be having the exhaust check tomorrow.
