fuel filter

Having trouble disconnecting original fuel filter. After buying the split release tools, one side popped open but can't get other end off. Tool seems to fit into connector as far as it should go but it won't release. Any help would appreciated.
Thanks,
Smokercraft

there's a trick...

the two ends of the fuel filter use different sized release tools.

Did you try pushing the hose towards the filter then pull it back? Someone also told me to spray a little WD 40 where the spring is located in the line. Helps to release it.

My original fuel filter was hard as hell to get out too. The release tools were in all the way, so the spring mechanism was released. I sprayed each end with wd-40 and kept working the filter loose. Finally, it came off. You would think they would come up with something easier. Anyway, I would spray some wd-40 and then keep working the filter.

on my 97f150, only one size removal tool is needed. Far as i know, that's true for all of the so called "EZ Release" ford fuel line connector fittings. I'm just glad the ford engineers didnt sell us the "hard to remove" fuel lines. The removal tools are availalble in plastic or metal. I started with plastic but after 3 or 4 changes i figured the plastic was getting weak and i sure didnt want to break one off. So now i only use the metal tools. The metal insert tool costs less than $10. i've never had to use wd40. changing fuel filters will save you money. Be careful tho. Properly depressurize the fuel system, remove neg battery cable, wear goggles, obviously no smoking, have a catch pan for the gas that will dribble out of the fuel lines, etc etc. once you get the hang of it, fuel filter changes take no longer than 20 or 30 minutes. p.s. wally world has fuel filters (only fram tho ) and they are pretty cheap. believe the 974.6 uses fram 3850.

Amen, I always thought the connections were hard to release but a little patience and work usually gets them loose. I find the hardest part is getting the old filter out of the holder and the new filter in without pinching any skin.
